Grape: Riesling
Why 12.12.12? This refers to the harvest date, 12th December 2012.
Terrior: Single parcel in the heart of Trittenheimer Apotheke (2,000 meters), blue slate ground, 41 years old vines.
Yield: 10 hl/ha (very low yield!!)
Wine making: Hearthly, non-botrytis grapes were selected and left on the wines to freeze during winter. On 12.12.12, the frozen grapes were hand picked, and pressed immediately. Sugars, and extracts from the grapes do not freeze, while water does. This allows a very concentrated grape must to be obtained as a lot of the water is excluded. Alexander only uses natural yeast fermentation, resulting in a refreshing desert wine with great complexity.
Production: 500 bottles
