The winery had been run by Teobaldo Cappellano since 1980's until he passed away in 2009. Variously described as a "wine artist", "professional polemist" and a "poet, philosopher and winemaker in his spare time", Teobaldo was a controversial figure. In 1983, he banished all journalists from his cellar; they could only review his wines on condition that they did so without giving scores. Augusto takes up his father's winery work. In keeping with his father's wishes, he does not send samples to wine guides and he asks all of those who tastes his wines to refrain from assigning numerical points. Only 2 Barolo are made in his estate, namely "Otin Fiorin Pie Rupestris" and "Otin Fiorin Pie Franco". Both wines are from a 4 hectares parcel in the Gabutti vineyard in Serralunga d'Alba.
All wines by Cappellano are subject to final confirmation and are strictly on allocation.
