Collection: Etna: Alta Mora
With vineyards located at elevations ranging from 600-1,000 meters above sea level on the slopes of Mt. Etna’s active volcano, Alta Mora grows some of the highest-lying vines in the world today.
The estate owns parcels in five of the appellation’s “contrade” (aka sub-zones). This allows the winemaker to achieve the desire cuvées by blending grapes sourced from a wide range of different micro-climates. The volcanic subsoils in the vineyards are idea for creating wines with elegance, balance, and minerality. Land there is still largely undeveloped and pristine, that allow the growers to adopt a more natural way to farm without synthetic pesticides or herbicides.
Alta Mora's motto is “minimal intervention”. Such growing and winemaking philosophy allows the terroir to shine through. The estate's “bio-architecture” cellar, sculpted out of ancient volcanic rock, keeps the wine cool naturally, thus reducing the winery’s carbon footprint.
