Collection: Le Marche: Borgo Paglianetto
What is Verdicchio?
Verdicchio is arguably Italy's greatest native white grape variety. When grown in its homeland Marche in Central Italy, it has the ability to ripen slowly and evenly, manages to maintain high levels of acidity even at high degree of ripeness.
Wines from Verdicchio are floral, fruity, high in acidity, full of flavours of citrus fruit, almond and winter green. The most famous denominations for Verdicchio are Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi and Verdicchio di Matelica. Comparing the two regions, Verdicchio di Matelica is by far the smaller one (1/7 the size, less than 20 producers) and well know for the uniform high quality and tension in the wines. Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi is flatter and closer to the Adriatic sea, while the weather at Verdicchio di Matelica is more continental as it is located within a high altitude mountain valley between the pre-Apennine hills, Apennine range and Sibillini mountains.
About Borgo Paglianetto
The story of Borgo Paglianetto starts in 2008. Five friends from Matelica gathered together, thinking to make their love of farming, winemaking and homeland solid. Here comes Borgo Paglianetto, a project combining two wineries and five wine souls. There are less then 20 producers in the DOC, and Borgo Paglianetto's wine are rarely exported.
