We are in Alto Adige, North Italy. Above Eppan is the Gandberg farm, where Thomas Niedermayr cultivates around 2 hectares of vines on deep limestone gravel soils. In addition to viticulture, there are also fruits, vegetables and animals at the Gandberg farm.

Thomas Niedermayr's wines are among the treasures of the South Tyrolean wine scene. The winery is one of the first in Italy to mainly grow fungus-resistant varieties. This inherent property makes it possible for Thomas to work without chemicals in the vineyards, leading to not only better grapes but also a reduction in carbon footprint and environmental impacts.

Fertilizer is also unnecessary, as Thomas opts for biodiversity and natural cycle in the vineyards instead of chemicals. Different plant seeds are sowed in the vineyard every year, resulting in a wide variety of different plants in the vineyard (e.g.lucerne, sweet clover, mallow, pulses, bee food, sunflowers etc).

These wines are more than natural wine, as the subjects of sustainability and natural resource conservation are addressed as well.
