Sagona - Soulful Biodynamic Wines from Tuscany

The winery Sagona is located 500 meters above sea level on the slopes of the Pratomagno massif, in the province of Arezzo.  Arezzo was at the heart of the mountain culture of the Etruscan civilization, it is a city older than Constantinople and Alexandria in Egypt.

Daniel Corrotti is one of the most famous winemakers of the area, his wines having cult following in Japan.  When he is a university student, Daniel worked as a waiter.  It is at the restaurant he met Luigi Veronelli, the famous Italian gastronome and wine critic.  Daniel became interested in wine and agriculture, he started his winery a decade later with the help of Federico Staderini (winemaker of Cuna and the legendary oenologist behind Ornellaia and Poggio di Sotto).

Pratomagno is a place with a wonderful landscape but at a high risk of abandonment.  Daniel discovered the place by mistake (or by fate), he was on the wrong bus and when he discovered that, he got off at Pratomagno, where become Sagona winery now we are enjoying...  The place is like the wines, little known but beautiful and charming.  Located far away from cities and big wineries, Sagona is as close as nature as you can get.

The stars here are undoubtably the wines base on Trebbiano Toscano.  Different with most Trebbiano Toscano in the market, Daniel's vines are from ancient clones of the grapes.
