Grape: Frappato, Alicante, Nero D'Avola
Liama is a blend of Alicante and Frapatto, plus a small amount of Nero d’Avola. Alicante and Frapatto contribute a lively fruitiness to the wine. The wine displays remarkable freshness and purity, with attractive notes of cherry, mixed berry. The elegant acidity balances the powerful fruits.
Meridio cultivates their vines in “alberello” style. Alberello means "small tree". This is a local tradition to grow the vines in tree style, which offers uniform exposition to the strong Sicilian sun. The only support used for the alberello vines is the Giant Cane, collected in the winter during a specific lunar phase.
To tie the vines to the cane, the only material allowed is the “liama,” an incredibly strong blade of grass used by the Ancient Greeks. The nuances of the Arundo and Liama wines slightly change with each harvest; and, as natural wines, they contain no added sulfites or chemicals.
