Pinot Noir, Schloss Halbturn, Burgenland, 2008
Bright, stylish flavours of loganberries, strawberry jam, coffee and earthy notes to a sweet, juicy structure with supple tannins. Shows complexity and charm, with a touch of spice and aromas of chocolate and raisins. (5/5, Regional Trophy, Decanter)
In an international tasting event in 2010, 34 top Pinot Noirs from Austria, Burgundy, New Zealand, and Oregon, vintage 2001-2008, were judged blind by Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW and a group of wine writers and sommeliers.
To everyone's surprises, against wines from DRC (06 Vosnee Romanee 1er Cru Cuvée Duvault-Blochet, 01 Echezeaux), Georges Roumier (Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru "Les Cras"), Comte Georges de Vogüé (05 Chambolle Musginy 1er Cru) etc, 6 out of 10 of the top wines in the tasting were from Austria, the 2004 vintage of Schloss Halbturn Pinot Noir being one of the 6 wines.
